Nicol of Skene recently completed a challenging project, which commenced on the 23rd of March 2023 and concluded in August 2023. This project involved there placement of an existing 2.4m diameter corrugated steel culvert with a 2.1m diameter composite, steel-reinforced pipe in Glenugie, Peterhead. The scope of the project included diverting the culvert away from Score's yard area, which required meticulous planning, coordination and execution.

The project came with several challenges. Nicol of Skene faced the task of performing culvert tie-ins at depths of 10m and 5m. Managing the high water flow levels through the existing culvert was another significant challenge, especially considering the unpredictable fluctuations in water flow due to varying weather conditions, including heavy rainfall.

To tackle this complex project, Nicol of Skene utilised the Volvo ECR355E fitted with Trimble GPS machine control for precise operations. Ground force provided essential support, including temporary works designs for with a 4m Manhole box equipped with high clearance posts and struts, complemented by rolling strut trench boxes. Selwood supplied two 8-inch raw water pumps, essential for managing water levels during the project. Aquaspira's 2.1m diameter composite, steel-reinforced pipes, along with specially manufactured concrete surrounded structures at tie-ins both upstream and downstream, played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the project.

Collaborating with Score Group, Nicol of Skene overcame these challenges and completed the project successfully. The new culvert now efficiently manages the flow of water, ensuring its safe passage. This project's success is a testament to Nicol of Skene's unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality results, even in demanding conditions.
