Quantity Surveyor

Nicol of Skene are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a wide range of civil engineering projects across the North of Scotland.

This is an opportunity to take on a key commercial role within a growing, family-run contractor with a strong pipeline of work across civils, HDD, multi-utilities and renewable infrastructure.

The Role:

You will be responsible for the commercial management of projects from initial award through to final account, working closely with our operational teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.

Duties will include:

  • Managing project costs, valuations and variations
  • Subcontractor procurement and management
  • Preparation and submission of applications for payment
  • Monitoring project performance and reporting on commercial position
  • Identifying risks and opportunities across projects
  • Supporting project teams with commercial decision making

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role
  • Has experience within civil engineering, utilities or groundworks
  • Is commercially aware and confident managing projects
  • Can communicate effectively with site teams, clients and subcontractors
  • Is organised, proactive and able to manage multiple projects

REQUIREMENTS

Skills & Experience Required:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, working for either a main contractor or subcontractor
  • Previous experience working on civil engineering projects involving earthworks, infrastructure & plotworks is beneficial
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Demonstrated capability in managing subcontractors, ensuring quality, adherence to timelines, and alignment with contract requirements
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic, while being self-driven and capable of working independently or as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Legal right to work in the UK without restrictions (no sponsorship available)
  • Experience of utilities and HDD works is advantageous, however not necessarily required
