Nicol of Skene, a well-established civil engineering, multi-utility and directional drilling construction company is seeking an experienced and proactive Site Agent responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of civil engineering and multi-utility projects based in our INVERNESS Office.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that work is carried out safely, to high quality standards, on time and within budget, in line with company standards and client expectations.
The role involves managing site operations, coordinating labour, plant, subcontractors, and materials, while ensuring all works are completed in accordance with programme, specification, quality standards, and health & safety requirements. Projects may include roads and infrastructure works, drainage, earthworks, utilities installations, reinstatement works, and multi-utility services including water, gas and electric.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day site operations across civil engineering and utility projects.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Supervise site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Coordinate labour, plant, and materials effectively to maintain programme targets.
- Monitor progress against programme and report any delays or issues to management.
- Attend and lead site meetings with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Promote and maintain a strong health & safety culture on site.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, legislation, and client requirements.
- Prepare and review RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements).
- Carry out site inspections, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Ensure all permits, utility drawings, and safe digging practices are followed.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe practices promptly.
- Oversee multi-utility installations including water, gas and electric.
- Liaise with utility providers, local authorities, inspectors, and clients.
- Interpret utility drawings, specifications, and construction information.
- Ensure all utility connections and reinstatement works meet statutory and client standards.
- Coordinate traffic management and street works activities where required.
- Assist with cost control and resource planning.
- Monitor site productivity and identify efficiencies.
- Record site progress, variations, delays, and additional works.
- Submit accurate daily records, site diaries, and progress reports.
- Support the commercial team with valuations and subcontractor management.
- Ensure all works comply with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Complete quality inspections and maintain site records.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience in a Site Agent role within civil engineering and/or multi-utility projects.
- Strong understanding of utility installation and infrastructure works.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and civil engineering specifications.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Competent in reading engineering drawings and site documentation.
- IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office and site reporting systems.

Qualifications & Certifications
Essential
- SMSTS.
- CSCS Card (Black or Gold).
- First Aid at Work.
- Full UK Driving Licence.

- EUSR Utilities Card.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- CAT & Genny Training.
- Confined Space Training.
