We’re proud to share that Nicol of Skene’s Charity of the Year for 2026 is Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), supported in memory of Jude MacDonald.
Jude was a much-loved 16-year-old from Westhill who tragically passed away from a rare, undiagnosed heart condition. His sudden loss has had a profound impact on his family, friends, and the wider community. In Jude’s memory, his family have created a memorial fund with CRY to help protect other young people through early detection and cardiac screening.
Every week in the UK, at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die suddenly from undiagnosed cardiac conditions. CRY works to reduce these tragedies through awareness, research, family support, and free cardiac screenings for young people aged 14–35.
To kick off our fundraising, our employees have already started signing up for our first event — a cold water dip at Aberdeen Beach — and we’d love to extend the invitation to everyone to get involved.
📍 Aberdeen Beach, Fittie
📅 Saturday 14 February (Valentine’s Day ❤️)
⏰ Dip time: 9:30am
If we can raise £7,000, we can help screen 100 young people in our local area, potentially identifying hidden heart conditions before it’s too late.
Whether you’d like to brave the cold water, sponsor someone taking part, or simply make a donation, every bit of support makes a difference. Participants are asked to donate £10 per person, with all funds going directly to CRY in Jude’s memory.
