Nicol of Skene Completes Works on Robbie Shepherd Memorial in Dunecht
Nicol of Skene was proud to be involved in the civil engineering works for the Robbie Shepherd Memorial in Dunecht, a project with a strong connection to the local community.
Robbie Shepherd was born in Dunecht in 1936 and went on to become a prominent broadcaster, writer, entertainer and Highland Games commentator. He presented BBC Radio Scotland’s Take the Floor for more than 40 years and was a passionate champion of the Doric language through his broadcasting and writing.
The memorial cairn provides a permanent tribute to Robbie in the village where he was born and where he first developed his love of Scottish traditional music.
Our works took place from April to July this year. The civil engineering scope included fencing, earthworks, installing foundations ahead of the stonework, installing new drainage and upgrading the existing road.
The team also completed footpath surfacing, laid porous tar and installed resin-bound surfacing around the memorial.
Recycled clean stone and sub-base were also supplied from our aggregates and recycling operations for use on the project.
The works were delivered in collaboration with McIntosh Plant Hire, Bruce McCombie Builders, David Chouman Architect and Dunecht Estate.
Since its unveiling, the memorial has attracted visitors from the local area and further afield, providing a place to pause, reflect and remember Robbie Shepherd.
For Nicol of Skene, it was a privilege to contribute to a project that has such a strong connection to Dunecht.
