Nicol of Skene is currently delivering the civil engineering and infrastructure works for Phase 2 of the Portstown development in Inverurie. Working alongside our client, Malcolm Allan Housebuilders, our team was appointed to undertake the essential groundwork and utility installations for the next phase of this major housing project, which will ultimately deliver over 150 new homes.
The comprehensive scope of our works includes the installation of sewers, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), new road infrastructure, and essential utilities. A challenge on this project involves the complex installation of large diameter concrete drainage pipes and manholes..
To overcome this challenge and ensure maximum precision, Nicol of Skene has deployed a new JCB 245X excavator to the site, fully equipped with advanced Trimble GPS and an Engcon tiltrotator. This state-of-the-art machinery allows our team to tackle the demanding groundwork efficiently and accurately.
In a collaborative effort to optimise material supply, the project has actively utilised aggregates sourced directly from both the Nicol of Skene quarry and the Malcolm Allan Housebuilders quarry.
Project operations commenced in August 2026, with the team initially focusing on the extensive sewer and SUDS installations. Following this steady progress, the road installation phase is scheduled to begin in October 2026. Nicol of Skene continues to deliver the critical civil engineering infrastructure required to support Malcolm Allan Housebuilders in bringing this significant local development to life.
